This chapter centers around the fascinating mechanics of Hiromi Higuruma’s Domain Expansion: Deadly Sentencing, a courtroom-themed Domain that replaces typical combat with a trial-based confrontation.
After entering the domain, Yuji Itadori finds himself seated in a courtroom, with Higuruma acting as the prosecutor and a shikigami named Judgeman presiding as the judge. Surprisingly, instead of accusations tied to recent events, Judgeman charges Yuji with unlawfully entering a pachinko parlor as a minor — a seemingly trivial crime.
The rules of Deadly Sentencing require Yuji to defend himself using logic and argument within the courtroom setting. If found guilty, he will face a punishment determined by the domain’s judgment. Though Yuji quickly grasps the situation’s stakes and tries to argue his innocence, Judgeman ultimately rules against him.
Yuji’s sentence is “Confiscation,” a penalty that temporarily strips him of his ability to use cursed energy, leaving him extremely vulnerable in any ensuing fight against Higuruma. With the verdict delivered, the trial concludes, and the domain prepares for the next phase of their confrontation.
